At Safe Haven Counseling & Wellness…

We know that starting therapy often comes with a lot of questions, about how it works, what to expect, and how to get the most from your sessions. That’s why we’ve gathered answers to the most common questions our clients ask before beginning their journey. Whether you’re exploring online therapy in Austin, Texas or continuing care in Minnesota, you’ll find the information you need to feel confident, informed, and supported every step of the way.

Do you offer in-person therapy?
No, I exclusively provide telehealth counseling (secure video sessions). This allows me to serve clients in both Austin, Texas and Minnesota, giving you access to therapy from wherever you are.
How do online therapy sessions work?

We use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You’ll need a private, quiet space, a device (computer, tablet, or smartphone), and a reliable internet connection. Once your session is scheduled, I’ll send you the link and connection instructions ahead of time.

Can you legally offer therapy in both Texas and Minnesota?

Yes. I’m licensed to practice in Minnesota and currently offer telehealth services to adults living in Austin, TX, provided local laws permit. If you live elsewhere, please ask and I’ll verify whether I can legally offer services in your state.

How long are therapy sessions, and how many will I need?
Sessions typically last 50–60 minutes, depending on your needs. The number of sessions varies, some people notice change in a few months, while others need more sustained work. We’ll adapt as we go.
What types of therapy do you offer?

I provide evidence-based approaches tailored to you, including:

  • Trauma therapy (including Brainspotting)
  • Anxiety and depression counseling
  • Grief and loss support
  • Nervous system and Polyvagal-informed work

Each is adapted for telehealth to help you feel safe and supported throughout the process.

Is my information private and confidential?
Absolutely. All sessions are conducted through secure, encrypted technology. Your personal information and therapy process are protected according to professional confidentiality standards and HIPAA requirements.

What if I’m in crisis or thinking of harming myself?
If you are in immediate danger or having suicidal thoughts, call 911 (or your local emergency number). You can also call the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the U.S., these services are available 24/7. During therapy, we will also develop a safety plan to ensure you have support when needed.
What is telehealth therapy best for?
Online therapy works well for most mental health concerns, including trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and nervous system regulation. Its benefits include flexibility, privacy, and access across multiple locations. If your situation requires in-person care, I can help refer you or adjust the format.
